Antique Rose and Idaho Skies: Inside Emma Roberts and Cody John’s Wedding

Emma Roberts has always kept the most personal parts of her life carefully removed from public attention. Her wedding to actor Cody John followed the same approach. Rather than choosing a highly publicised Hollywood celebration, the couple exchanged vows during an intimate outdoor ceremony at a private residence in Idaho on 25 July 2026.

Surrounded by greenery and elaborate floral arrangements, Roberts and John stood on a circular wooden platform as they married in front of close friends and family. Among the guests were Roberts’s aunt, Julia Roberts, and her husband, cinematographer Danny Moder.

John wore a brown suit for the ceremony, while Roberts chose a bridal look that reflected her interest in vintage objects, antique fabrics and clothing with a sense of history.

The couple had been together for almost four years by the time of the wedding. They reportedly met through mutual friends during the summer of 2022. Their relationship became public that August, when John shared a photograph of them kissing. Roberts later confirmed the romance on her own social media.

In July 2024, after approximately two years together, Roberts announced their engagement. The couple remained relatively private throughout their relationship, making only occasional public appearances together at fashion events, film premieres and industry gatherings.

Cody John is an actor whose television credits include appearances in Wu-Tang: An American Saga and In the Dark. While Roberts has worked in the entertainment industry since childhood, John has maintained a considerably lower public profile.

The centrepiece of the wedding was Roberts’s custom Monique Lhuillier gown, which took nine months and almost 1,000 hours to complete. Instead of traditional bright white, the actress chose silk chiffon in a tea-stained shade called “antique rose”, a name that also referenced her middle name.

Twenty-five yards of chiffon were draped over a structured corset and arranged into a layered skirt with a high slit and softly gathered bustle. The dress combined the construction of contemporary couture with the delicacy of an antique garment.

A detachable asymmetrical shawl, edged with ecru French lace, created a dramatic train for the ceremony. Once removed, it revealed a strapless neckline and gave the gown a lighter silhouette for the reception.

Roberts completed the look with a chapel-length silk-tulle veil in the same antique-rose shade and a delicate lace voilette that could also be worn as a headband. The gown was designed to be transformed throughout the celebration, allowing the bride to wear several variations of the same look.

The actress drew inspiration from antique books, aged paper, vintage photographs and collectible objects. Her intention was not to wear a conventional bridal dress, but to create something that looked as though it had been discovered in an archive.

For the after-party, Roberts changed into an archival Monique Lhuillier design from the designer’s autumn 2004 collection. The black two-piece look featured a Chantilly-lace corset and a tea-length skirt constructed from hand-cut layers of silk organza.

The darker second outfit offered a deliberate contrast to the softness of the ceremony gown while maintaining the vintage character of the wedding wardrobe.
