On September 8, Lisa Batiashvili returned to the Tsinandali Festival for a performance with pianist Marc-André Hamelin and the Schumann Quartet. The program featured works by Ludwig van Beethoven and Ernest Chausson.
It marked Batiashvili’s third appearance at this year’s festival. She opened her Tsinandali schedule on September 3 with Karol Szymanowski’s Violin Concerto No. 1, performed with Gianandrea Noseda and the Pan-Caucasian Youth Orchestra. On September 6, she appeared in a chamber music program with Giorgi Mardaleishvili, Mark Schumann, and Giorgi Gigashvili.
Batiashvili is widely regarded as one of the leading violinists of her generation. Over the course of her career, she has performed with many of the world’s foremost orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, and Los Angeles Philharmonic. In 2015, Musical America named her Instrumentalist of the Year. The annual Musical America Awards was established in 1960, recognising artistic excellence and achievements in the arts.
She has recorded exclusively for Deutsche Grammophon since 2010, with a discography spanning major works of the classical repertoire as well as contemporary projects. In 2021, she founded the Lisa Batiashvili Foundation, which supports young Georgian musicians.
Set at a 19th-century estate in Kakheti, Georgia’s best-known wine region, Tsinandali Festival brings leading international classical musicians and a new generation of performers together for 11 days of concerts, opera, and chamber music.
