Ralph Lauren Spring/Summer 2027 at New York Fashion Week

Ralph Lauren opened New York Fashion Week on September 9 with his Spring/Summer 2027 collection, presented at the Jack Shainman Gallery in Tribeca. Titled “Irreverent Romance,” the collection brought a softer and more sensual mood to the American style the designer has shaped for almost 60 years.

The opening look set the tone in optic white, with a silk brocade top fitted at the waist and matching trousers. From there, the collection moved between precise tailoring, fluid eveningwear and relaxed sportswear. White, navy and camel formed its foundation, while velvet, embroidery, feathers and metallic fabrics introduced richer textures.

Lauren paired ornate pieces with familiar wardrobe staples. Brocade jackets were worn with cargo pants, feathered velvet with boyfriend jeans and formal shirts and ties with faded denim. The combinations reflected an approach that has always been central to Ralph Lauren: classic clothes become more interesting when they are worn according to personal taste.

Historical influences appeared throughout the collection. Pinstriped waistcoats extended into long tails, while fitted jacquard jackets and blouses with Victorian collars introduced references to the Gilded Age. Styled with denim, cotton shirts and relaxed trousers, these elements felt contemporary.

Several looks also returned to the history of the Ralph Lauren brand. A wide tie worn with a tonal blue shirt and faded jeans recalled the four-inch ties with which Lauren began his career in 1967. Oxford shirts, cable-knit cardigans and structured suits represented other signatures that have remained part of the house’s visual language for decades.

The Spring/Summer 2027 collection placed particular emphasis on fabric and craftsmanship. Silks and lamé were hand-painted or treated to create an aged surface. Technical organza appeared faded, gold beadwork produced an ombré effect and sequins developed into fringe. Some dresses were intentionally creased, giving formal silhouettes a less polished finish.

The eveningwear continued this sense of ease. Fluid wrap dresses followed the movement of the body, while embroidered velvet robes and shimmering gowns brought intimacy to the runway. Even the most elaborate pieces appeared designed to be worn freely rather than preserved in perfect condition.

This balance between luxury and familiarity is one of Ralph Lauren’s most recognizable qualities. The designer’s world includes Western clothing, preppy sportswear, formal tailoring and evening glamour, yet each part remains connected by a consistent idea of American style. Spring/Summer 2027 showed how its established codes can still be adapted through proportion, texture and unexpected combinations.
